MS Plus is a not-for-profit organisation providing information, research and support to people living with MS and other neurological conditions. We teamed up with strategic consultancy The Contenders to address MS Plus’s confusing and fragmented role in the community with a refreshed brand and a remarkable website transformation.

Challenge

A mountainous transformation journey

MS Plus faced several challenges that were impacting the organisation’s ability to offer true value to its community. Their website was outdated, lacked accessibility, and was plagued by usability issues, along with a CMS that was difficult to use and costly to extend. 

There was also a pressing need to address their confusing and fragmented role in the community. MS Plus wanted to expand their service offering beyond those living with multiple sclerosis to include people living with other neurological conditions.

Solution

A comprehensive, agile approach

We grounded our approach in user-centric design, inclusivity, and collaboration. We conducted extensive research and employed a data-driven process to ensure a solid understanding of user and business needs. Stakeholders were engaged in UX workshops, which ensured alignment on user personas, content prioritisation, and the desired visual identity. 

Rigorous user testing validated the approach. The solution developed includes a service finder that allows users to quickly find the right services based on their needs. It also includes a user-friendly, scalable CMS that integrates with key systems and streamlines backend processes for content managers.

Outcomes

Helping more people live with neurological conditions

The website now adheres to industry best practices. Its improved accessibility provides an inclusive experience for all users. Its user-friendly CMS and seamless integration with existing systems have streamlined operations significantly. 

The website's mobile-friendliness led to 91% longer visit durations on handheld devices, a surge in online enquiries and form submissions, and a 60% increase in visitors. People responded well to the revamped resources hub, resulting in a 60% increase in educational webinar registrations and a 58% increase in unique listeners for the MS Podcasts compared to the previous year.

MS Plus saw a substantial rise in new donors and community fundraisers with the MS Cash Appeals program raising $1,526,739 in cash donations. This is an increase of 33% from the previous year. Their digital transformation journey not only addressed MS Plus’s existing challenges but also positioned them for sustainable growth, enhanced brand awareness, and expanded impact.
