Queen Elizabeth Centre (QEC) is Victoria’s largest provider of early parenting services, offering tailored programs, addressing parenting concerns, and promoting confident and capable families. After rapid growth resulted in a site that no longer met the needs of the organisation, we led the discovery process and redesign for their new website.

Challenge

An outdated website lacking visual appeal

QEC's previous website was built on an outdated platform with very basic functionality. This became increasingly problematic with the rapid growth of the organisation in recent years. It was difficult to update and maintain from an organisational perspective and for users it was difficult to navigate. It lacked visual appeal, did not display elegantly across different devices and did not meet accessibility standards. It was obvious the current site would not meet the future needs of the organisation as it continued to grow.

Solution

Creating a welcoming digital space for families

To address the QEC's challenges and objectives, we embarked on a comprehensive discovery process. This involved engaging multiple stakeholders in a UX workshop to validate ideas and prioritise features. The workshop helped uncover user pain points and opportunities for engagement. 

Building upon the insights gathered from the discovery process, the team adopted an iterative design and development approach. We developed an information architecture, visualised key pages and user journeys through digital wireframes, and underwent multiple design reviews. 

Comprehensive web features were developed including a resource hub for parents and caregivers seeking information, advice, and support during the critical early years of parenting. Resources were grouped and made filterable by keyword, type and category, allowing visitors to quickly narrow down content based on their specific information needs. Full content migration, testing and deployment were also executed, along with the provision of post-launch support.

This full spectrum approach ensured the website accurately represented QEC's brand values, conveyed key messaging, and provided a seamless experience for families accessing their services.

Outcomes

A safe space for families and a growing organisation

The transformation of QEC's website is a reflection of their maturing and evolving organisation. The new content management system is easy-to-use, flexible and customisable. Its implementation has empowered the QEC's team to manage and update content, ensuring the site remains current and fresh, and positively impacting families accessing QEC's services. 

We delivered a user-centric, highly visual, functional and accessible solution. The user-friendly design resulted in improved user engagement with a 9% increase in new visitors and session duration up 33%, helping to connect over 2,000 families to the QEC in 2022-2023. The solution now supports the QEC’s mission to inspire confident, capable communities that enable children to thrive.
